Foky

Tutorials

How Foky works, one feature at a time. Settings ▸ Tutorials in the app opens this page, so anything here is current without updating the app.

Getting started

Sign in with Apple, choose your region, answer the age question, and review the Privacy Notice and Terms. Your first sprint asks for Screen Time permission and lets you choose which apps to shield — Foky never picks them for you, and it can only see the selection you make.

Focus sprints

Press Start, choose Focus, and pick a duration. Attach a deck if you want to study during the session, or leave it on No deck for open focus. Every sprint shields your selected apps for its whole length.

Free durations are 10, 25, 45 and 60 minutes. focus+ adds any length from 10 to 120 minutes.

Earning app time

Press Start and choose Earn app time. This mode is the opposite of a sprint: instead of a timer you set, your apps stay shielded until you answer questions to unlock them.

Set the terms on that screen before turning it on:

Turning it on engages the lock, and sets a six-digit PIN first if you do not have one. Each correct answer banks minutes; you decide when to spend them, so you can answer several cards and open your apps once for a longer stretch.

A session ends in one of three ways:

While the lock is on, the PIN is the only way back to the rest of Foky. That is deliberate: if someone else set the terms, the decision to open the phone is theirs. If you set your own PIN, it is simply a step you chose to put in your own way.

App Lock, profiles and Strict

Every sprint uses App Lock. Free includes one profile of selected apps. focus+ adds several profiles, schedules, allowlists, and Strict mode.

Strict removes temporary passes entirely — while a Strict profile is enabled there is no quick peek and no earning, and the PIN is required to turn Strict off or delete a Strict profile.

Foky makes stopping early harder, never impossible. Deleting the app or turning off Screen Time access ends blocking, and no app on iOS can prevent that.

Decks and study

Build decks of question cards and review them on their own or inside a sprint. A new card is available to review immediately; after that, cards return on a spacing schedule.

Free decks live on your device only. They are not backed up and do not follow you to a new phone or a reinstall. A focus+ or Pro subscription activates private cloud backup for your study content.

Focus buddies and your Collection

Focused work advances a focus buddy toward a reveal, which adds a creature to your Collection. A reveal takes 60 points. Focused minutes are the main source — one point a minute — and correct answers add a small assist, one point each, up to 10 of the 60. Answering can never replace focusing.

Friends and the leaderboard

Friends are added by exchanging codes, and both people have to agree. The leaderboard ranks friends by focused minutes for the week. It is available to adult accounts only, as are AI features, FoBy packs, and crates.

Both friends need to have accepted the current Privacy Notice and Terms to see each other.

FoBy

FoBy is earned by focusing and reviewing, and spent on presentation — buddy customization and similar. Changing your display name is free the first time and 200 FoBy after that. Money never buys progress, reveal odds, or Collection entries.

Plans

focus+ adds blocking profiles, schedules, allowlists, Strict, custom sprint lengths, cloud backup for study content, and extended buddy presentation. FoKy Pro adds adult AI assistance with a monthly credit allowance. Both are Apple subscriptions, managed in your Apple account.
